Gary Staley Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Gary Staley Memorial Scholarship Fund was established after the in line of duty death of Porter Fire Department Firefighter Gary Staley on January 19, 2003. This grant and scholarship program provides financial assistance to members of fire departments in Montgomery County for the purpose of enhancing a fire department’s ability to protect the health and safety of the public as well as providing training experience to protect the firefighter. The individual extension of grants is intended to provide financial assistance for tuition. The classes approved for assistance are restricted to fire fighting, emergency response, supervision, safety and EMS with fire academy training having the primary emphasis.
Individual contributions and an annual golf tournament in April are the primary sources of revenue to fund this continuing memorial.
As of May 12, 2008, ninety three grants have been issued totaling over $65,000. A copy of the application can be obtained from this web site. Any questions should be directed to Don Staley (281) 259-6003 or to Carter Johnson (281) 354-6666.
