The Porter Fire Department Training Division is dedicated to the enhancement of education for all fire fighters.  The Division prides itself on bringing high quality training to fire fighters covering all aspects of the emergency response.  This includes continuing education for all members of the department as well as new certifications in many disciplines pertinent to the Fire Service.  Many of these certification classes are taught by knowledgeable in house staff; however, due to the diverse nature of emergency response we have developed partnerships with Lonestar College, the Montgomery County Hospital District, and many neighboring departments to bring in subject matter experts.

Some of the courses we have provided within the last year are:

Texas Commission of Fire Protection Driver/Pump Operator Course.  This is a 80 hour course that is designed to prepare the emergency driver with the knowledge and skills required to operate pumpers, tankers, and brush vehicles.  Objectives met were driving skills, pumping skills and cognitive knowledge required to pass the State’s curriculum that meets and exceeds the NFPA standards covering vehicle operation.

State Fire Fighters and Fire Marshals Association 70 hour Introductory Course to Fire Fighting.  This course is designed to take the novice off the street and prepare them for their first fire fighting experience.  All volunteers must complete this course before being allowed to participate in fire ground activities.

Roof Ventilation.  CE course on our new roof training prop.  Students learned to safety ventilate roofs.
