Let Us Teach You How To Save A Life
Learn the essentials of CPR at Porter Fire Department

CPR Saves Lives... Many deaths can be prevented if the victim receives prompt help. If someone trained in CPR provides proper life saving measures until trained professionals take over... Starting CPR within 4-6 minutes can bring a person out of cardiac arrest without any permanent disability. If started with 10 minutes, there is still a chance of successful resuscitation.

Cardiac arrests are more common than you think, and they can happen to anyone at any time.

  • Knowledge of CPR will give you the ability to save a life.
  • Nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually, and 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home.
  • Many victims appear healthy with no known heart disease or other risk factors.
  • Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack.
  • Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when electrical impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic, which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating.
  • A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is blocked. A heart attack may cause cardiac arrest.

If you are an employer, make sure you have CPR trained employees and an AED in the workplace... you might be the patient. If you are an employee, spread the word that Porter Fire Department cares about you and your organization.

If you are a community based organization, youth program, or church, make sure you have a CPR trained staff and an AED on your premises.

Heartsaver CPR

Heartsaver First Aid is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrives. Students learn duties and responsibilities of first aid rescuers; first aid actions for medical emergencies, including severe choking, heart attack, and stroke; and skills for handling injury and environmental emergencies, including external bleeding, broken bones and sprains, and bites and stings. It is also designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) to all lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace. Participants include security guards, firefighters, police, and other lay responders. Although the course may be used to teach CPR to all lay rescuers, it is specifically designed for lay rescuers who are required to obtain a course completion card -a credential- documenting completion of a CPR course. All rescuers are trained in CPR and relief of FBAO.
