School Apparatus & Firefighter Visits

School Apparatus & Firefighter Visits

A vintage red fire truck labeled "Porter Vol Fire Dept" parked inside a fire station.

During the visit, the firefighters will show the students the firetruck, explain the different types of tools they use, and demonstrate how they put on their bunker gear. Pictures are allowed in front of the firetruck. Firefighter visits generally last 30-60 minutes, depending on the size of your group.

Groups viewing the firetruck are limited to 25 people per group. If your school has several groups of 25, the time spent per group may be shortened in order to ensure that the firefighters have time to attend to their many daily responsibilities.

Fire Crews will remain in service during their visit and may be called to an emergency while your visit is in progress. If the emergency affects your visit, all efforts will be made to reschedule. It is recommended that Apparatus / Firefighter visits be scheduled at least 4 weeks in advance, although requests can be made at any time.  This allows our firefighters to incorporate the visits into their daily inspection and training schedules.

The fire department will make every effort to accommodate your request but cannot guarantee that the times requested will be available.
